Kim Shokouhi Photography Celebrates its’ 10th Year in Business | Colorado Wedding and Boudoir Photography est 2002

Thursday, January 5th, 2012

In honor of my 10th year in business I thought it would be fun to take a look back at some fun tidbits from 2002!

1)  I married my college sweetie! On September 1st 2002, after 7 years of dating, we were married at the Chateaux of Fox Meadows in Broomfield, Colorado.  It was fantastic – we had tons of family and friends there – it was for sure one of the best days of my life!  (I don’t know if you can do the math here…but I’m only 35 and I’ve been with my darling hubby for 17 years!!!)

2)  Celebrity weddings of 2002:

2/23 Leann Rimes & Dean Sheremet

6/11 Heather Mills & Paul McCartney

6/15 Denise Richards & Charlie Sheen

7/4 Julia Roberts & Danny Moder

8/10 Lisa Marie Presley & Nicholas Cage

9/15 Gwen Stefani & Gavin Rossdale

10/26 Jessica Simpson & Nick Lachey

3) Happy new parents, Beyonce & Jay-Z, met in 2002 while working on an album together.

4)  People Magazine’s Sexiest Man Alive 2002: Ben Affleck (who, in 2002, was also dating Jennifer Lopez and the couple were nicknamed “Bennifer”).

5)  American Idol debuted June 11th. As of 2011, it is the most watched TV series in the Nielsen ratings and the only program to have been number one for seven consecutive seasons, surpassing All in the Family and The Cosby Show, which were both number one for five consecutive seasons. (source: Wikipedia)

6)  Another reality show debut: The BachelorAlex Michel was the very first guy to take the title and the winning gal was Amanda Marsh.   According to wikipedia.org, Michel did not propose to Marsh, but instead they took a chance at a relationship. Marsh and Michel broke up after several months.  Trista Rehn was the runner up.  Rehn was then featured on the first season of The Bachelorette and chose Ryan Sutter as the winner.  The couple was married on December 6, 2003. They were paid $1 million by ABC for affording the network the right to televise their wedding ceremony, which was broadcast as the finale of a three-episode special called Trista & Ryan’s Wedding, which drew over 26 million viewers, making it one of the most-widely viewed episodes in the history of reality television. They are still married and have two children together….and live right here in Colorado. (source: Wikipedia)7)  SPORTS: (source: Wikipedia)

Superbowl XXXVI: The New England Patriots won their first Superbowl by defeating the NFC Champions St. Louis Rams 20-17 as kicker Adam Vinatieri made a game-winning 48-yard field goal as time expired.  This victory is on of the biggest upsets in Superbowl history.  The halftime show featured U2 singing “Beautiful Day”, “MLK” and “Where the Streets Have No Name”…all while the names of 9/11 victims were floating into the sky behind the band.  (In 2009 si.com ranked it as the best halftime show in Superbowl history).

NBA Finals: The Los Angeles Lakers swept the New Jersey Nets four games to none.

Stanley Cup Finals: The Detoit Red Wings defeated the Carolina Hurricanes in five games.

MLS Cup: The Los Angeles Galaxy beat the New England Revolution 1-0 in the 2nd overtime on a sudden-death goal.

World Series: The Anaheim Angels won four games to three against the San Francisco Giants.

3. Hot in Herre, Nelly
4. Dilemma, Nelly Featuring Kelly Rowland
5. Wherever You Will Go, The Calling

7. In the End, Linkin Park

Kelly & Justin are Getting Married Soon! | Chicago and Wheaton, Illinois Wedding Photography

Thursday, August 11th, 2011

I had the opportunity to travel to Chicago last weekend to visit with my Chicago couples.  Kelly & Justin were one of them and we had a fantastic engagement session.  It was pouring rain when I left the city…then drizzling once I got to Wheaton.  We began under some shelter and then the rain cleared up!  It didn’t matter towards the end because Kelly wanted to get Justin soaked with water balloons!  The water balloon fight was awesome and a first for me. – Come back tomorrow to see the proof!  Here are a few of my favorites from the dry session:  Check out facebook for more!

The Emily Post Institute Wedding Budget Worksheet | Colorado Wedding Photography

Monday, March 21st, 2011

I get daily emails from DailyWorth and found this article useful for my business and my bridal clientele. I wanted to share it with my readers:

Your Wedding, Their Money—How to Ask
By Anna Post

Q: I’m hoping my parents will contribute to our wedding—but we’ve never discussed it. How do I ask?

A: Before you mention anything to your families, make sure you and your fiancé are on the same page.
Use the wedding budget worksheet on The Emily Post Institute website to estimate the total cost, how much you can afford to contribute—and how much you might ask Mom and Dad for.

Don’t do this on the fly—give your parents time to prepare: “Mom, Nick and I were hoping we could talk with you and Dad about the wedding budget. When would be a good time?”

Once you’re talking, be appreciative of any assistance, respectful of your parents’ financial situations, honest about your own finances—and willing to compromise.

And breathe. Everyone has a different idea of what a wedding should look like. Try to explore expectations neutrally (“This is what we were thinking, what are you two thinking?”).

Regardless of who is paying, it’s your right to remind parents that they can make suggestions, but they can’t hold you hostage to their wishes. Parental politics can be tricky, and often the pressures are unspoken. Try to acknowledge their ideas, while standing firm about your own.

“Mom, I don’t mind your change to the flowers, but when it comes to more guests—even with your offer to pay—our plan is to keep the wedding small, and we want to stick to that.”

If price tags and competing priorities get in the way, think about your 25th anniversary. When you look back, what you’ll remember are the people who were there and the joy you felt, not the Vietnamese spring rolls.

Erin & Jim Tied the Knot November 7th…

Friday, November 20th, 2009

Erin & Jim were married on Saturday November 7th at Chicago’s Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum. It was so warm and sunny outside, it was a great day.

Their ceremony was held in a tent on the Museum grounds and the reception was indoors. During the cocktail hour guests were able to walk around the museum, I went into the butterfly room and got a little butterfly phobic…they are everywhere and are not afraid of people at all!

Erin & Jim are a classy couple and their wedding was no different. These are some of the people that helped make it beautiful:

Ceremony & Reception Venue: Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum
Catering: Food For Thought
Bridal Gown: Melissa Sweet
Shoes: Caparros
Bridesmaids Dresses: (various…each bridesmaid selected her own.)
Tuxedos: the groom wore Jack Victor and groomsmen were in Joseph Abboud
Hair Design: Michael Anthony Salon & Spa
Makeup Design: Ulta
Limo: Empire Limousine
Florist: Robert’s Floral Design Studio 773.836.9680
Cake: Dinkel’s Bakery
Program/Menu: Kristin Neperud Merz of Unscribbled, Inc.
Musicians: Belle Music
Tent: Partytime Productions

I’ve included some of my favorite photos mainly of details here…tons more are on my facebook page. Check it out and become a fan!

One of the many things I really liked was the program and menu. They had one large program presented at the entry of the ceremony and one large menu at the entry of the reception. This saved on paper waste and is so Green…just like Erin & Jim.When the cake was served, it included a slice of white chocolate.
I wish you both the best. Erin you’re a doll and Jim is so sweet. I’m so honored I was chosen to be a part of your day. xoxo, Kim.
