I recently came across a fabulous idea that went along with my desire to craft – Whimseybox!  It’s a monthly diy craft subscription box.  You pay only $15 (including s&h) which has an assortment or craft/art supplies, instructions on what to do or inspiration to create your own design…and it also comes with the cutest reusable box with a label holder…to store your craft supplies!  Did I say it was only $15…and I didn’t even have to search a store to find all the materials!  (Every time I go to Hobby Lobby or Michael’s I end up spending atleast $50 – if not $100.)

I just received my first month’s subscription last week.  Since today is a snow day…I thought it would be the perfect day to craft!

The March Whimseybox included a 6″x8″ board, some nails, baker’s twine and wire.  It had a few designs included, but since this was my first I wanted to make it personal and be something that I believe in!  My favorite crafting materials were once used for something else (re-purposing) – or even better – were someone’s else trash (recycling).  I always tell my kids “one woman’s trash is another woman’s treasure”!!  – Yes – they think I’m crazy!

So I found a design online at Clker.  It is the recycle symbol turned into a heart! <3

I printed out the recycle heart design and made dots along the design where I was going to place the nails.  I taped the paper to my wood so it wouldn’t slip…then began nailing.  After all the nails were in, I took the paper off.

I had to redo my first arrow because I used one of the nails from a different arrow.  Make sure you remember if you have spaces that will not be filled with the twine or wire.

Once I was done stringing the wire around all the nails I decided to add a little more color.  I couldn’t find my painter’s tape but used archival tape instead.  I taped off a border around the heart – about 1/4″.  Then I used some all purpose acrylic paint to paint the edges.

I added a little Mod Podge when the paint was dry for a shiny effect.  Once it was dry I slowly removed the tape.

This is my first finished Whimseybox project!   And my first personal project of the year (yes…I know it’s April!)…I’ve been busy!   I hope you love it!!…and it inspires you to become or stay crafty!
